Theatre & Stage reviews by SalsaChicago.com critic Al Bresloff

500 Clown Frankenstein (thru November 13)

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs is presenting the 500 Clown Frankenstein at the Loop Theater. This is very intense, physical comedy that in one hour brings the house down as it somehow manages to tell us a version of Frankenstein Molly Brennan, Adrian Danzig and Paul Kalina are the new version of "the Three Stooges"- all of the physical humor that some of us grew up on, is brought to a live stage (and extremely close to the audience) while they attempt to tell us a story that we all know. It is FUNNY!!!!. The audience does get involved and these three really know how to play the audience (to the hilt). On opening night there was a three or four year old boy in the audience who was a delight. It almost seemed as though they had planned to use him, but they didn't and it was a riot. Directed by Leslie Buxbaum Danzig (with great care) the clowns through their interaction with each other and the audience do get the "gist" of the story out there, but in reality, who cares? This show is just one hour of uninterrupted fun and laughs. They are able to fall and climb with tables dropping and amazingly no one gets hurt. Often, we all need a good laugh- an escape from reality and 500 CLOWNS FRANKENSTEIN is just what will do the trick.

This production will run at the Loop Theater (8 E. Randolph Street) through November 13th with performances as follows:

  • Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m.
  • Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Tickets are $15 (what a bargain) and students and seniors only $10. You can order tickets by calling 312-744-LOOP (5667) at the box office, but best to go online at ticketweb.com.

Want to keep up with these clowns 500clown.com.
