Caribbean
Swing (Swing Caribeño) represents a
convergence of professional musicians who
have been active in the Chicago music scene
for more than 25 years. They bring together
expansive musical training and ideas from
diverse sources that include Cuban music,
Puerto Rican style salsa, jazz, rock, rhythm
and blues, classical, Latin folkloric, Jamaican,
and Big band music. The name of the group
was carefully chosen to reflect the musical
background of the musicians and the music
they play.
Caribbean
Swing musicians have been playing since the
1960’s and have been recorded on various
albums nationally and internationally with
such accomplished musicians as Mongo Santamaria
and Machito. Also, over the past three decades,
the musicians in the band, have worked with
numerous bands locally to keep in touch with
their local roots.
Caribbean
Swing brings the traditional Latin music to
the new millennium with the balance of sizzling
and smooth sounds for dancing or listening
pleasures. Truly, not only is Caribbean Swing
one of Chicago’s finest orchestras,
but also one of Chicago’s most sought
after.
